August 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Jana Marie Foundation and Schlow library are excited to announce KNOW – a book club for students in grades 10-12. This group will meet on Sunday evenings beginning August 2, 2020, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and will run through Sunday, August 23, 2020 to complete our first book. For now, this will be a virtual book group due to COVID restrictions to ensure the health and safety of everyone. We will provide members of KNOW with a zoom link each week to join us during the designated time.
This book club is open for all genders and is designed to give teens in grades 10-12 the opportunity to connect with themselves and with others through the joy of reading. The young adult titles we will explore will have stories and themes related to mental health that tend to be relevant to young people today, and that tie to the mission of Jana Marie Foundation.
We will encourage weekly reading of specific chapters in the chosen book each week in order to discuss those chapters as a group when we meet on Sunday. KNOW is designed to provide opportunity for self-discovery and self-reflection through the stories we will read. In addition, we hope it will create connections, build community, and give readers the chance to learn more about their own mental health and the role mental health and wellness plays in our lives. Reading is a powerful source for seeking knowledge, thinking freely and critically, and learning more about the world around us. When it comes to mental health, Jana Marie Foundation feels the more you KNOW, the more you can empower yourself and others to be their best!
Time to Read
Our first book title is How to Disappear by Sharon Huss Roat. Through our collaboration with Schlow library, we are able to provide members of KNOW with complimentary eBooks through HOOPLA.
