Part cabaret and part improvisational theater, She’s Crazy: Mental Health and Other Myths uses original music and personal stories to inform as well as entertain. The audience is an integral and active part of the show which brings issues of mental health to the forefront of community dialogue.

Written and performed by (State College’s own) Sherry McCamley and Cathy Springfield

Sherry McCamley is a singer-songwriter-musician-actor-director-teacher who began her performing career in State College, PA while a student at Westerly Parkway Junior High School, playing piano for a bowling banquet for which she was paid $5 and a free game! Thankfully she has moved on to more prestigious (and slightly higher paying) gigs, playing piano and singing in clubs and cabarets and acting and singing onstage all over the US. A proud graduate of State High and Penn State, Sherry also performed with the local band “Stevie & the Six-Packs” for many years and is married to “Stevie,” (Steve McCamley) another State High and Penn State grad. In 2011, Sherry formed Feisty Broads Productions with Cathy Springfield, with the goal of producing socially relevant and thought-provoking works. She and Cathy received a grant from the Cincinnati Arts Ambassadors Fellowship program in 2014 to write “She’s Crazy: Mental Health & Other Myths,” and had their first performances in January, 2015 in Cincinnati. Since then, they have performed the show for mental health groups including NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the Cincinnati Veterans Administration Hospital, Jana Marie Foundation, several colleges, and as part of the Arts in Healing program in Cincinnati. She also has a CD of original songs called “Changing My Point of View” (available on I-Tunes). Sherry lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Cathy Springfield loves working with Sherry McCamley, the other Feisty Broad! She was the Chair of Performing Arts at Xavier University for 23 years. She taught theatre classes and directed over 160 productions while at Xavier. She is currently an actor, director and co-founder of Clifton Players, an equity theatre company, in Cincinnati. Cathy was also co-founder of American Repertory Theatre of Cincinnati, an umbrella organization that included Shakespeare in the Park, Peanut Butter Theatre, and ARTreach Touring Theatre. A favorite project was A Midwinter’s Tale working with Kenneth Branagh and adapting his original film for the opening of Xavier’s new theatre complex in 2003.
