Mindful Creations

At Jana Marie Foundation we believe in the power of creative expression to open minds and save lives. Art, music, and other creative endeavors promote dialogue, reduce stress and anxiety, increase self-awareness, and improve overall mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Calm Down Jar

Sparkle Jars

Create a sparkle jar to help you calm down when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

Materials

  • Mason Jar
  • Water
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Colored glitter
  • Food coloring, optional

Directions

This version of sparkle jars uses about 80% water and 20% glue. Pour Elmer’s glue, hot water and glitter into a mixing bowl, along with food coloring (optional). Mix with a whisk until blended. Transfer to Mason jar. Put on lid and shake to make sure you love the way it looks! If it’s perfect, take lid off, let cool. Once cooled, put lid back on and secure with hot glue.

Drawing Prompts

Draw what you think “sour” looks like.

Think of two random objects and combine them in your head, then draw what you imagine.

Listen to your favorite song, and draw or doodle what comes into your mind as you listen.

Draw what wind would look like if you could see it.

Draw what you think “happy” looks like.

Draw something you are thankful for. It could be a person, place, or thing.

Fill a paper with every kind of shape and pattern you can think of.

Look around your environment, whether you are inside or outside, and try to draw different shapes you see from the objects around you.

Imagine gravity stopped working in your house. Draw what you think that would look like.

Listen to a song with a slow beat and draw lines, shapes, and patterns as you listen. Then, listen to a song with a fast beat and draw more lines, shapes and patterns as you listen.
